OAKFIELD – Paul M. Shields Sr., 83, died peacefully Feb. 18, 2011, with his family at his side in Palm Bay, Fla. Paul was born April 25, 1927, son of Charles and Ruby (White) Shields.

Paul was a World War II veteran and an active member of the local American Legion. He lived all of his life in Oakfield and was involved in many different forms of community service.

He is survived by his children, Emily Butler and husband, Steve, Paul Jr. and wife, Melanie, and Amber McGary and husband, Kermit; nine grandchildren, Bruce and Sarah London, Mason Wiles, Aaron and John Larson, Erica Roy, Nolan Shields, Stephanie Trembley and Evan McGary; 12

great-grandchildren; his sister, Cora Clark; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend and companion, Mary Crandall. He was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Betty (Swallow) Shields; daughter, Nancy Wiles; son-in-law, Mark Wiles; five brothers and two sisters.

Funeral and burial will be in the spring and will be announced in a future edition of the Bangor Daily News.
