GLENBURN – Wayne D. Currier, 69, passed away Feb. 19, 2011, surrounded by his loving family at a Bangor hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born Sept. 22, 1941, in Lincoln, son of Byron W. and Leona G. (Violette) Currier.
Wayne was a graduate of Mattanawcook Academy and Carnegie Institutes. He was a Vietnam veteran, serving in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1969.
Wayne worked for Dr. Gulesian before moving to the Bangor area. He had been employed at St. Joseph Hospital, Taylor Hospital and Mobile Medical Services, finishing his working years at James River Co. and residing in Glenburn. Wayne was a true outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing.
He will forever be remembered by his daughter, Heidi Gosselin and her husband, Edmond, of Falmouth; brothers and sisters, Violette Jones and her husband, Arthur, of Milo, Sheldon Currier and his wife, Jean, of Lincoln, Lorraine Chase and her husband, David, of Enfield, and Roger Currier and his wife, Sandy, of Bangor; along with many loving nieces, nephews and countless family and friends who were blessed to know him. Wayne will be sadly missed by his close friend, Wayne Eldridge and family. He was predeceased by his parents, Leona and Byron Currier; and a sister, Joan Roy.
A service of remembrance will be held 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with the Rev. Dr. Rex H. Garrett, director of chaplaincy services, Eastern Maine Medical Center, officiating. Family and friends are welcome to call 5 p.m. until time of service Friday and are invited to join the family for conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor, immediately after the service. Spring interment will be at Maine Memorial Cemetery, Augusta.
