WEST SIMSBURY, Conn. – Edith “Arvene” (Ham) Yakemore, 80, beloved wife for 59 years of Andrew Maynard Yakemore, passed away peacefully Monday, Feb. 21, 2011, at MeadowBrook, Granby, Conn.

Arvene was born June 17, 1930, in Cambridge.

She was a graduate of Hartland Academy, Hartland. She attended Farmington Teachers College, now the University of Maine at Farmington, and went on to receive a Bachelor of Science degree in education from the State University of New York, Brockport. She taught in elementary schools in Maine and New York before moving to West Simsbury, Conn., in 1966. She was a member of First Church of Christ, Congregational, Simsbury, Conn., and was a member of Box Project, Plainville, Conn., since 1985.

She was predeceased by a son, Jeffrey C. Yakemore. In addition to her husband, she leaves a son, Michael L. Yakemore of Weatogue, Conn.; a daughter, Jeanine L. Christensen and her husband, Nord E. Christensen, of West Simsbury, Conn.; and three grandchildren, Lisa A. Mayer and her husband, Ryan, of Lebanon, Ohio, Ashley Rose Decker and her husband, Chad, of Middle-town, Conn., and Ryan Adam Christensen of Salem, Mass.

A service for the celebration of Arvene’s life will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 26, at First Church of Christ, 689 Hopmeadow St., Simsbury, Conn.

Burial will be 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 28, at Simsbury Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
