SEARSMONT – Carl E. Dudley, 83, passed away Feb. 27, 2011, at his residence. He was born July 17, 1927, in Jackson, son of Fredrick W. and Eva (Cook) Dudley.

Carl began working with his father in the woods at the young age of 6, peeling pulp, which he continued for many years along with driving truck for his uncles. He was drafted into the Army during World War II and was stationed in Germany at Templehof Base as military police. One of his greatest accomplishments was standing guard for Gen. Dwight Eisenhower. He was discharged and came back to Maine, where he worked for his stepfather doing a waste disposal business until going back into what became known as the Air Force during the Korean War. He was stationed stateside as an instructor for the military police and truck driving. Carl was discharged after the War in the early 1950s and began working with Dave Shibles driving truck and other jobs. He worked for Robbins Lumber until his retirement in 1989. He was best known for his keen eye as a log scaler. Some of Carl’s hobbies included gardening, cooking, reading and keeping his yard well maintained.

He was predeceased by his parents; and a brother, Paul Dudley. Carl is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Agnes (Harvey) Dudley of Searsmont; his children, Dixie Jones and husband, Robert, of Bar Harbor, Scott Dudley of Searsmont, Tina Monreal and husband, Ray, of Bucksport and Nina Robinson of Jefferson; his brother, Francis Dudley and wife, Elizabeth, of Belfast; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
