SOUTHWEST HARBOR – Dixie T. Mitchell, 94, died peacefully in her sleep March 2, 2011, at Sonogee Rehabilitation and Living Center. She was born Aug. 10, 1916, in Steuben, daughter of Wilber Parritt and Christie Pinkham.

Dixie will always be remembered for being sweet and loving. She made the best of every situation while being upbeat and jovial. If you didn’t have a smile to spare, she would have one waiting for you. Early in marriage she moved around the country with her husband to several U.S. Coast Guard stations until they settled in his hometown of Southwest Harbor.

She is survived by her two sisters, Christie Smith and Hazel Norwood; two half brothers, Robert Parritt and Jim Parritt; two grandchildren, Julie W. Valaitis of Barkhamsted, Conn., and Jay A. Wellington of Londonderry, N.H.; two great-grandchildren, Morgan and Mitchell Valaitis; several nieces and nephews, and many friends. Dixie was predeceased by her parents; her husband, George A. Mitchell; and her daughter, Joyce M. Wellington.

Graveside services will be held in late spring on a date to be determined. Arrangements by Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport.
