BANGOR – Master Sgt. Everett L. White, U.S. Air Force, retired, 84, passed away March 3, 2011. He was born Nov. 19, 1926, in Berlin, N.H., the son of Stewart and Evelyn (Willey) White.

Everett enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1943 and became an aviation radioman and aviation gunner. He served in VPB-61 in the North Pacific. Everett served in the Navy until 1948, when he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force as an air traffic controller. Everett served in Newfoundland during the Berlin airlift and in the South Pacific on Kwajalein Island, controlling aircraft for the A-bomb test. He also served in Germany for three years and retired from the Air Force at Dow Air Force base in 1965 as master sergeant air traffic control supervisor. After retiring from the Air Force, Everett went into business with his family as a service station operator. Later he and his son, Pat, had a used car business and a general store with food takeout in Palmyra. Everett also worked at Sullivan Ford as a sales manager and as a salesman for Rapaport Auto and Village Subaru. After retiring from Village Subaru, he was the bus driver for Sunbury Village until he had to retire due to health reasons. Everett really enjoyed ice fishing, especially at Moosehead Lake, and hunting in Palmyra with his family. He felt very fortunate to have gone on five moose hunts with his family.

Everett is survived by his wife of 26 years, Lucile (Herrick) White of Bangor; three sons, J. Patrick White of Palmyra, Stewart C. White and his wife, Lorena, of New Vineyard and James D. White and his wife, Victoria, of Jay; one daughter, Susan A. Baker and her husband, William, of Bangor; one stepson, David F. Murch and his wife, Anne-Marie, of Raymond; daughter-in-law, Laurel White of Newburgh; the mother of his children, Cecile White of Bangor; three brothers, Richard of Cascade, N.H., Elmont of Dallas, Ga., and James and his wife, Carol, of Lawrenceville, Ga.; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Elaine and Ralph Stevens of South Berwick; 10 grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren and several great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Stewart; two sisters, Margaret and Diane; and his loving son, John, in 1990.

A service will be held noon Wednesday, March 9, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. Interment will be in the spring at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Augusta. Gifts in his memory may be sent to Bangor Humane Society, 693 Mount Hope Ave., Bangor, ME 04401.
