LINCOLN – Vernard Phillip Leavitt, 73, husband of Janet (Wyman) Leavitt, passed away March 4, 2011, at a Lincoln hospital. He was born April 11, 1937, in Lincoln, the son of Otis “Pud” and Marie (Harmon) Leavitt.
He grew up in Chester and Lincoln. Vern served 14 years in the Air Force and then was part of the National Guard. His passion was trucking and he always wanted a PeterBilt. He was a truck driver for VP Leavitt, Inc. He had a good sense of humor, lived life fearlessly, and loved the Red Sox, telling stories and country music.
In addition to his wife of 35 years, Janet, he is survived by his children, Vicki Martin, Karen Brown and her husband, David, Joe Leavitt and Yesenia, Brian Leavitt and his partner, Lori, Lucreatia Leavitt Robichaud, and Jamie Leavitt Cavanagh and Andrew; two stepchildren, Rob Tomilson and his wife, Dena, and Lisa Tomilson; brothers Otis Leavitt and Gregory Leavitt and his wife, Tally; a sister, Joanne (Leavitt) Clark and her husband, Ivan; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and many, many friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by children, Craig Leavitt, Phillip Leavitt, Lori Leavitt Long and Vernard Phillip Leavitt Jr.; and a sister-in-law, Dale Leavitt.
Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday, March 10, at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln. A graveside service will be held at Lincoln Cemetery in the spring.
