MILLINOCKET – Constance M. Burleigh, died Friday, March 11, 2011, surrounded by her family at a Millinocket hospital. She was born Aug. 21, 1923, in Randolph, the daughter of Emile S. and Clara (Stonier) Dubey.
Connie grew up in Bangor and was educated there, graduating from Bangor High School. She worked for W.S. Emerson Co. until she married Dana H. Burleigh Sr., Sept. 13, 1948, and moved to Millinocket. Connie was a gifted musician, and while living in Bangor, was a singer with the Nat Diamond Orchestra. After moving to Millinocket, she continued to use her musical talents by becoming a charter member of the Millinocket Philharmonic, and also sang regularly at church services at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Millinocket, as well as at many special services, weddings and funerals. Connie was also past president of Emblem Club and was a member of the Altar Guild at St. Andrew’s. She worked for Millinocket School Department as a teacher’s aide and also worked at Millinocket Middle School as secretary to the guidance office. Connie was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and devoted her time in recent years to attending her grandchildren’s sporting events, school functions, dance recitals and family gatherings.
She is survived by three children, Denise Page and her husband, Blaine, Diane Garvin and her husband, Ronnie, all of Millinocket and Dana Burleigh Jr. and fiancee, Bonnie Deveau, of Gorham; seven grandchildren, Josh Garvin and his wife, Shannon, Jaime Peters and her husband, Andy, Blaine Adam Page, Janna Ouellette and her husband, Nick, Brianna Robbins and her husband, Levi, Ashley Burleigh and fiance, Andy Shamos, and Jordan Burleigh; four great-grandchildren, Cameron Garvin, Seth Garvin, Kenzi Peters and Page Robbins, as well as her eagerly anticipated fifth great-grandchild expected in September 2011; a brother, James Dubey and his wife, Jo, of Hampden; a sister, Shirley Nichols of Gray; two brothers-in-law, Chuck Burleigh and his wife, Peg, and Jerry Burleigh and his wife, Marion, all of North Carolina; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Connie will also be missed by a special “Mom,” Margaret “Nannie” Taylor; and many special friends, including her lunch and card group. In addition to her parents and her husband, Connie was predeceased by a sister, Yvonne Ambrose.
Friends are invited to visit with the family 2-3 p.m. Wednesday, March 16, in the Guild Room at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 40 Highland Ave., Millinocket. A Mass of Christian burial will be immediately afterward 3 p.m. presided by Deacon Bob Landry. Spring interment will be at Millinocket Cemetery.
