BANGOR – Elaine Frances Kotredes passed away on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, 2011, at home. She was born Aug. 20, 1928, in Bangor, the youngest child and only daughter of M. Madeline (Boyle) and Arthur W. Nichols.
She graduated from Bangor High School in 1946 and Massachusetts College of Pharmacy in 1951. She was one of just 12 women in her graduating class and was extremely proud of this accomplishment. It was at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy that she met Lewis T. Kotredes. They married in 1952 and after spending four years in Texas while Lew served in the Air Force, they returned to Bangor to raise their family. She and Lew owned and operated Center Pharmacy for many years. Elaine was a strong, independent and loving woman. She was a lifelong communicant of St. John’s Catholic Church. She was a devoted fan of the University of Maine Men’s Hockey team and her beloved Boston Red Sox. She also loved spending time at the family camp on Green Lake.
In addition to her parents, Elaine was predeceased by her husband, Lewis; her four brothers, John, James, Raymond and Arthur “Nick”; and a cherished granddaughter, Danielle. She is survived by her six children, Thomas and wife, Debra, Arthur and wife, Beth, James and wife, Cathy, Catherine and husband, Kevin, Ellen and husband, Marc, and John; nine grandchildren, Lewis, Jonathan, Robert, Kevin, Kate, Kristen, Edward, Michael and Emily; special cousins, Sally Ring and Virginia Dolan; and nephews, Christopher, William and David Nichols. Her love and spirit will live on in us all. The family gratefully thanks Hospice of Eastern Maine for the exceptional care and support that they provided.
