BANGOR and SHERMAN -Rachel C. Heath, 68, died May 19, 2011, at a Bangor hospital.

She was born April 14, 1943, in Sherman, daughter of James and Signa (Martin) Heath.

She was a member of Neighborhood Church, Bangor, and Washburn Memorial Church, Sherman. Rachel was a beloved teacher of many and a 40-plus year volunteer for Literacy Volunteers of America.

She is survived by her brother, Stuart Heath and his wife, Freda, of Southington, Conn.; sister, Marcia Heath Gammon and her husband, Richard, of Bangor; her nieces and nephew, Sherri Valentine and Shelley Starr of Connecticut, Gilbert Heath of Limerick, Charlotte Ellis of Augusta and Brenda Gammon of Bangor; as well as cousins and great-nieces and great-nephews. Rachel was predeceased by her parents; and her brother, Frank M. Heath.

A graveside service will be held 3:30 p.m. Saturday, May 28, at Sherman Mills Cemetery with Pastor Brian Haggerty officiating. After the service there will be a gathering at Washburn Memorial Church Vestry.
