CARIBOU – Kenton J, Nadeau, 75, died Aug. 4, 2011, at his residence with his family by his side, after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. He was born Nov. 17, 1935, in Lewiston, son of the late Lawrence and Leona (Wardwell) Jackson.
He was a 1952 graduate of Caribou High School and attended the University of Maine, Orono, and later graduated from Ricker College. He served with the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957 and he married Carole Johnston, Oct. 26, 1957. Mr. Nadeau worked in sales for a number of years and also owned and operated Ken’s Grocery, Caribou. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Mr. Nadeau served on Caribou Board of Education from 1975 to 1992, was past president of Caribou Bowling League and Babe Ruth Baseball League. He was an active member of Caribou Jaycees and served as state vice president. He was honored by the Jaycees as a recipient of the Jaycee International Senatorship. Kenton was an avid fisherman and recently had fulfilled his lifelong dream of a fishing trip to Alaska with his son-in-law, Scott, and also recently enjoyed a trip to Pebble Beach, Calif., with his son, Jeff, to play golf.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of more than 53 years, Carole of Caribou, are three sons and two daughters-in-law, Jeffrey and Christy Nadeau of San Diego, Brain Nadeau of Sewaren, N.J., and Bradley and Sara Nadeau of Cornwell, Vt.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Michele and Scott Gill of Brunswick, and Andrea and Glenn Hays of Chandler, Ariz.; a brother, Gard Nadeau of Alexandria, N.Y.; a sister, Harolyn Haines of Oakland City, Ind.; four grandchildren, Nicholas Austin, Danielle Nadeau, Ryan Nadeau and Emily Hays; two great-grandchildren, Shawn and Elayna; several nieces and nephews. Mr. Nadeau was predeceased by a brother, H. Bradley Nadeau.
Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 8, at the chapel of Mockler Funeral Home. Interment will be at Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery. Friends who wish to contribute in memory of Mr. Nadeau may do so through Caribou High School Scholarship Fund or Caribou Children’s Discovery Museum.
