BREWER – Jackson “Jack” M. Boynton, 93, husband of the late Beth (Eldridge) Boynton, died Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011, on what would have been Beth’s 93rd birthday. He was born Jan. 5, 1918, in Eddington, the youngest and last surviving of Ralph and Camilla (Young) Boynton’s 11 children.

Jack served in the U.S. Army as a technician fifth grade, serving from 1942 to 1945, during World War II. He served in North Africa, Sicily, Italy and France as a combat engineer. Jack received four Bronze Campaign Stars. After the war he worked 35 years for Owen Gray & Son, Brewer. In his “retirement” years Jack was a self-employed painter, yard worker and snow plower. He was a member of North Brewer Eddington United Methodist Church, a former member of Brewer Eagles Club and Riverside Grange, Eddington, and an original member of Eastern Maine Snowmobile Club. Since his youth he loved to dance and was also an avid bowler, camper and builder of many things, including the “house that Jack Built” on North Main Street.

He is survived by three children, Lynn Boynton Wirta and her husband, Sonny, of Seattle, Merrill Boynton and his wife, Dottie, of Bradley and Donna Boyle and her husband, William, of Brewer; three grandchildren, Adam Boynton of Boston, Bryce Boynton of Jupiter, Fla., and Kim Boyle of Brewer; several nieces and nephews, including his “younger brother,” Gene Boynton.

A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, at North Brewer Eddington United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Tracy Reeves officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the church after the service. Interment will be held 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Meadowbrook Cemetery, Eddington.
