EAGLE LAKE, Maine — Two men who suffered serious injuries in a moose crash on Wednesday morning remain in a Bangor hospital, one in critical condition.
Cyr Martin, 46, one of the victims and also the chief of the Ashland Police Department, is in fair condition at Eastern Maine Medical Center.
Melford Bouchard, 70, of Newburgh, is in critical condition at the hospital, a spokesperson said Friday afternoon.
At about 7:45 a.m. Wednesday, Martin, who lives in Eagle Lake, was driving his 2006 Chevy Blazer south on Route 11 between Portage and Eagle Lake when a moose entered the roadway, according to Maine State Police Sgt. Tom Pelletier. Martin’s vehicle struck the moose and swerved into the northbound lane, colliding head-on with a 2002 Chevrolet pickup truck.
Bouchard, the driver of the pickup, was accompanied by a passenger, Eileen Ross of Newburgh. She was treated for her injuries at Northern Maine Medical Center in Fort Kent and then released.
Bouchard and Martin were taken by LifeFlight to Bangor.
Martin suffered serious injuries to both legs and Bouchard suffered chest injuries, the sergeant said.
Both vehicles were totaled.
