HOWLAND – Bruce R. Carter, 44, died Oct. 8, 2011, at a Boston hospital. He was born Aug. 7, 1967, in Bangor, the son of Bruce and Judith (Waddell) Carter.
Bruce grew up in Glenburn and was a 1985 graduate of John Bapst Memorial High School, received a Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Maine at Presque Isle and a master’s degree at the University of Maine. He taught and served in various administrative capacities in East Grand, Washington Academy and Howland, touching many lives and making lifelong friends along the way. In 2005, he combined his love of teaching with his love of the outdoors with his business, Safety First, as a safety training consultant for logging companies. He loved his days in the Maine woods and enjoyed all the people – and animals – he encountered there. On Nov. 17, 1990, he married the love of his life, Paula, and together they made their home in Howland. He enjoyed snowmobiling, fishing, and most of all, spending time with his family at the camp he and his brother Wayne built on Escutarsis Lake.
He was predeceased by his mother; grandparents, John and Kate Carter; and nana, Margaret Waddell. In addition to his father, he is survived by his loving wife, Paula (Doane) Carter; his three children, whom he loved with all his heart, Bryce Jamieson, Reece Philip, and his sweet pea, Paige MacKenzie; siblings, Catherine and her husband, Jerry, Wayne and his wife, Carol, Lorraine and her partner, Mark, and Edward and his partner, James; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, who thought of him as a son, Milton and Pauline Doane; brothers-in-law, Wayne and Brian Doane; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He also leaves behind his brothers of Omega Sigma Beta fraternity. Special thanks to our family in Massachusetts for all their support during this time.
Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Friday at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln, where a memorial service will be held noon Saturday with the Rev. Emma Jean Cook officiating. Interment will be at West Enfield Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held after the service at his camp on Escutarsis Lake in Lowell. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to an educational fund for his children, to be collected at Howland-Enfield Federal Credit Union, P.O.
