SCARBOROUGH – It is with great sadness that the family of Joan Maureen (Connors) Howard announces her death Dec. 19, 2011, in Portland, after struggling with a lengthy illness. Born in 1933, in St. John’s, Newfoundland, daughter of the late Capt. Thomas and Margaret (White) Connors.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Bill; and sisters, Margaret Daly and Teresa Wargo. She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Ross; one son, Derek and wife, Lisa, of Princeton; two daughters, Rossann and husband, Andy, of Saint John, and Sonia and Joe of Hamilton, Mass.; two sisters, Nella Foley of St. John’s and Kay Vance of Toronto; many nieces and nephews. Joan was devoted to her family. She was a wonderful and caring wife and mother, who enjoyed nothing more than family gatherings and visits from her grandchildren, Jenna, Nick, Hope, Camille, Kylie, Michaela and Eric.
She is resting peacefully at Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, at St. James Catholic Church, Baileyville.
