CHERRYFIELD – Mary Fickett, a longtime resident of Washington County, passed away at the age of 96, Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011, in Bangor. Mary was born Feb. 25, 1916, in Bar Harbor, Mount Desert Island to Hollis M. and Gertrude (West) Linscott.

After her father’s work at Eagle Lake, the family finally settled in the Hancock area. Mary attended Ellsworth High School and shortly thereafter married Nathaniel Fickett. Mary was a dedicated homemaker with gardening, canning, knitting, and baking being among her favorite activities. Her baking was especially appreciated by family and friends because of her incredible homemade donuts and biscuits. Local grocery and restaurants were always pleased by the quality berries they received from her family raspberry patch. In addition, Mary also maintained her career as a practical nurse, retiring at the age of 62 from Maine Coast Memorial Hospital.

Mary is survived by her son, Roger Fickett Sr. of Milbridge; daughter, Judy Pangburn and Terrence of Holden; nine grandchildren; and 19 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband of more than 50 years, Nathaniel Fickett; her parents; daughter, Rose Fickett; daughter and son-in-law, Claudette and Charles Hall; all her siblings; and grandsons, Rory Gardner and Donald Strout.

A funeral service is scheduled 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012, at Faith Bible Fellowship Church, 77 Rays Point Road, Milbridge. A committal ceremony will be at Rock Maple Cemetery, Harrington. Services are under the direction of Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Homes, Milbridge. Condolences may be sent at
