PRESQUE ISLE – Robert B. Roope Jr., died Dec. 28, 2011, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born Aug. 27, 1927, at that same place, the son of Robert B. and Margaret (Keirstead) Roope.
Bob began his farming career at the age of 15, until the age of 81. He served in the U.S. Army from 1947 until 1949. In 2008, his family was honored, by being selected,
Farm Family of the Year in 2008. Bob was an active member of Maysville Grange, Presque Isle Fish and Game Club, and Presque Isle Snowmobile Club. He served as a director on the Agriculture Bargaining Council, was a member of Agway Store Committee and also Johnson Cemetery Association for many years.
He is survived by his loving wife, Regina Tozier Roope; two sons, Bruce E. Roope and his wife, Dolores, and Brandon Roope, all of Presque Isle; a daughter, Stacy Roope and her friend, Richard Niland, of Danvers, Mass.; grandchildren, Kristie Moir and her husband, Jason, Jody Shaw and her husband, Woody; great-grandchildren, Lane and Maren Moir and Shelby, Jessica and Samantha Shaw; brothers, Edward Roope of Gorham and William Roope and his wife, Brenda, of Winterport; several nieces and nephews. Predeceasing him were two brothers, Rev. Donald Thompson and Keith Thompson; and two sisters, Dorothy Gott and Jean Thompson Barker.
Relatives and friends may call from 11:30 a.m. until time of service at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle, where funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 2, 2012, with the Rev George McLaughlin officiating. A reception will be in the gathering area of the funeral home. A spring interment will be at Johnson Cemetery, Presque Isle.
