BANGOR, Maine — A taxicab showed up in Hermon last week to pick up a female patient and give her a ride to a Bangor hospital, but a man was at the location and took the cab, Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said.

“He lied about who he was to get a free ride,” the sergeant said.

Christopher Powers, 28, of Hermon was charged on Dec. 29 with theft by deception, forgery and for violating his bail conditions after he got out of the cab at the hospital around 9:15 a.m. and refused to pay the $34 fare, the sergeant said.

The name Powers gave to the cabdriver was very similar to the name of the female patient, who typically takes a cab daily to the hospital. The cabbie learned he had given the wrong person a ride as he was pulling into the hospital. Powers was charged with forgery because he signed a form using the other person’s name, Edwards said.

    1. And as neck tattoos go, not a very good one. Folks should consider this before embarking on a life of high crime. He should have got a unicorn or a puppy. Looks like a big ‘ol snake. Can’t hide in a crowd with that one!

  1. Ok, this guy is obviously kind of a tool, and looks like a tweeker, but this part of the story troubles me: “The name Powers gave to the cabdriver was very similar to the name of the female patient, who typically takes a cab daily to the hospital. The cabbie learned he had given the wrong person a ride as he was pulling into the hospital…” You are telling me this cab driver drove this guy from Hermon to Bangor without even turning around to look at him once before they got to the hospital? I would hope there is enough of a difference between a preggo lady and a guy with a neck tattoo to cause the cab driver to at least do a double take. Trying to hustle a cabbie out of his fare though? That’s just baaaad Karma.

    1. Where does it say she is pregnant ? My guess is she needs to go dose everyday at Acadia.

She takes a taxi EVERYDAY to the hospital? I’d be willing to bet that both that cab fare and the hospital bill are on our tab. What a sad state we are living in.
