BIDDEFORD, Maine — A local teenager was killed early Sunday morning when the vehicle he was riding in left the roadway and struck a garage, police said.
Chaz Dorian, 19, was killed when a 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier driven by Patrick Beatson, 19, failed to negotiate a curve on West Street and struck the garage, Chief Roger Beaupre said in a news release.
Beatson was transported to Maine Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, Beaupre said. The chief said the driver was traveling well above the posted speed limit.
The homeowners were home at the time and were not injured, and the garage suffered significant damage. The accident remains under investigation, and police are consulting with the state’s medical examiner and the York County district attorney.

What can one say about this story other than what we say in all the rest of the stories lately…So sad and so unecessary….Condolences to the familys.
He’s looking @ 6yrs for manslaughter I would say…….
the jail sentence is nothing compared to living with the fact he has taken another life… be a pretty hard pill to swallow
It will be more like three years. I know the driver is responsible for the occupants in their car, but, who made the other teen ride with him? We need an ad campaign telling people to just say no to riding in cars with yahoo drivers. Also, was the teen who was killed wearing his seat belt? I’m not excusing what the driver did. I’m just saying the teen who died had a choice to ride with him or not. We need to pound it into our kids heads not to ride with stupid drivers.
In the State of Maine, the DRIVER is RESPONSIBLE for u to have your seat belt on, the DRIVER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL OCCUPANTS, if idiots get in the car & get killed, another party goes out an SUES for all they can get for their OWN LOST 1’s STUPIDITY
Why are you shouting what I have already stated. I wouldn’t go as far as calling the deceased stupid. I would say he was ill-informed.
3 years, suspended sentence.
Has anyone any idea of how many people have died on Maine roads in say, the last 60 days??? Because I’ve lost count. And we haven’t even hardly had any bad weather. What is going on???
no worse then any other year, just reported more real time. Times they are a changing.
I am not the only one who noticed the roads are not being as well maintained as in years past. I hope parents warn their young drivers that speeding in this weather is even more dangerous than on clear roads.
These kids need to stop showing off to their friends. Turn the music down and drive the speed limit. Too many teens getting killed because of going too fast. It didn’t say the roads were bad at that time 66readerwriter. The driver was going too fast and lost control. I am guessing they didn’t have seat belts on. Please buckle up everyone. My condolences to the families.
Everyone has computerized cars these days or most everyone. I wonder how long before someone figures out that a card reader can be installed requiring that a drivers license must be inserted in the reader prior to being able to drive an auto. The computer then can read the age of the driver. Couple that with a gps system and the computer now knows the posted speed limit and the auto is automatically restricted from exceeding that limit. Maybe then at least kids can survive the “stupid years”. The same for drivers with OUI convictions on their license. Automatically notifies police that a convicted driver is on the road. YES, it’s way too much Big Brother, but it is now possible.
The youthful drivers who want to defeat the system that you’ve suggested will be the first ones to do so. The older drivers with previous OUI convictions are present on the roads in such numbers at almost all times of the day that noone could possibly keep track of them. And big brother shouldn’t. A previous conviction for OUI doesn’t mean that someone is under the influence each time they get behind the wheel. So your answer is not a good one.
Ford has a system similar to what your describing. Its called MyKey and was designed with the Teen driver of a family in mind. So this type of technology is starting to get out there. Of course its not fool proof. Its tied to the chip in a specific key but does put the technology in the hands of the parents and not the government. I’m sure it won’t be to long and the system will be even more advanced. My 2011 F150 came standard with this option.
To the parents and families involved….I am so sorry for your loss, and the rude comments of others. May you find a peaceful way to get through this tragedy and live with the memories that you have.
