CORINTH – Liz, 78, went to be with her Lord Feb. 3, 2012. There, she will be reunited with her beloved husband of 58 years, Carroll Buswell. She was born Aug. 8, 1933, in Providence, R.I., a daughter of
Johannas and Dorothy (Wiley) Denkewitz.
In 1946, East Corinth became her lifelong home. Things that most take for granted in life were her sole reason for living. As a motherless child, Liz sunk her heart and soul into being the best mother she could be to her three children. As her family grew with grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each held a special place in her heart.
They will forever see the glow on her face and feel her sincere hug. The door to her home was always left unlocked for friends and strangers alike.
Homemade cookies, donuts and pies were waiting for anyone who wanted to come for nine o’clock coffee break. She could be found cutting potatoes for french fries and making cheeseburgers for her children and their friends after the Sunday night church service. Liz never worried about dust, dirt or perfectly manicured nails. Seasonally, she picked potatoes and cut potato seed.
She worked side by side with her husband, Carroll, growing beans, corn and other summer vegetables. In the fall of the year, the lawn to their home grew orange with pumpkins.
Longtime customers came each year eager to pick out a pumpkin painted with her artwork. She and her husband owned Buswell Dry Beans for 32 years. Liz was totally devoted to her Christian faith. She was an active member of Corinth Baptist Church for 55 years. She taught Sunday school and Pioneer Girls at all age levels. No child left her class without knowing “Jesus Loves Me.” A 50-year award plaque was given to her when she handed over her love for Bible stories to younger teachers. Because of her love and concern for her three children, she wrote this poem in 1996:
MY EPITAPH
When the Lord comes and
carries me away I know there’ll be an empty place that’ll be shared day by day. If you
miss my glowing humor and long again to see my face
just remember I’m with Jesus living in his grace. When you see the flowers that God so beautifully has made you’ll know I’m with Him where the roses never fade. It’s a place that is eternal where Earthly eyes have not seen. It’s a home I so desired where
the grass is always green.
Because I so faithfully prayed
a mother’s prayer I’ll be waiting for my children to join me up there. But until then precious memories linger on and
remember the Lord will always be there for you to call upon.
She leaves behind two daughters, Carol Ann and husband, Jerry Brayson, and Judy and husband, Mark Hallenbeck; a son, Mark and wife, Hope Buswell; grandchildren, Karyn and husband, Curt Chadbourne, Patric Brayson, Paula Brayson and husband, Stacy Mears, Stephanie Hallenbeck, Chris Hallenbeck, Tyson Buswell and Gabe Buswell; great-grandchildren, Kathryn Brayson, Patric Brayson, Alex and Nate Chadbourne, Grace and Sophie Mears; brother-in-law, Norman and wife, Charlotte Buswell; sister-in-law, Velma and husband, Lewis Leavitt; special friend and sister-in-law, Theo Lougee; and special prayer partners, Shirley Clark and Sue Hill.
