WATERVILLE, Maine — Police say the uncle of missing Ayla Reynolds has been charged with assaulting another family member.

Authorities say Lance DiPietro and Justin DiPietro were driving on Monday when they saw Justin Linnell walking.

Justin DiPietro is the father of 1-year-old Ayla Reynolds, who has been missing since Dec. 17. Linnell is the father of Ayla’s cousin, who lives in the same house from which the little girl disappeared.

Police say Lance DiPietro confronted Linnell and the two were involved in a scuffle during which Linnell was knocked to the ground and kicked in the head.

Police say Lance DiPietro told Linnell to stop “saying stuff about my family.”

Linnell tells the Morning Sentinel the incident was unprovoked.

Justin DiPietro was not charged.

  1. This bizarre story continues to get “bizarre-er.”

Justin D drove his brother Lance D “to and from the scene” so that Lance D could kick their sister Elisha D’s boyfriend in the face.

What’s that all about?  Does Linnell know something that he might tell ?  Was this a warning?  Which one of these guys knows what went down?  Maybe things are beginning to unravel…and the mystery and events of Ayla’s disappearance will be revealed.

    1. If I was this guy I’d demand that my baby be out of the house.  If someone did “take” Ayla its not a safe place and if someone in that house is covering up then its not safe either.  This woman is not making good choices for her baby.

      1. I think it may be cause they all know that Ayla wasnt taken from the home because I as a mother would definatly be thinking the same thing that I wouldnt stay in a house were my child’s cousin was taken from

    2. Maybe Linnell doesn’t know that he knows something… he may be spreading the “right” rumors and that is scaring the Brothers.   Someone might look into those stories.

  2. I guess Justin was just an innocent by stander.  Way to go Justin — be proud of yourself.  But, understand that people are going to talk about you, its been said that the police don’t think your telling everything you know.  There’s a missing baby for godsake and your worried about what someone is saying about you — Come on.

  3. I’d like to know who was driving.  Who stopped the car and what was their  intent in doing so?  If it was Justin he should have been charged also.

    1. “Lance DiPietro, of 19 Ash St., was driven to and from the scene by Ayla’s father, Justin DiPietro, according to Waterville police Chief Joseph Massey, who described the incident as follows”   -Why wasn’t Justin charged?? Anyone else would be.

  4. As always the Sentinel has more details.

Did Ayla ever have a chance with this family as caregivers?

“Lance DiPietro was convicted of seven misdemeanors and five civil
violations since 2002, according to Waterville District Court records,
including allowing a minor to possess alcohol, underage drinking and
    theft.”

        1. Agreed!  This is the environment a small child is being raised in.  One where it’s acceptable to drive around beating people up with baseball bats and your feet simply because they hurt your feelings.  It’s an environment of hit first, act like an adult later.  This is what this little child will see for the rest of her life.

    1. According to this article Justin drove his brother to the scene.  Waited while he got out of the vehicle with a “BASEBALL BAT” (I’m thinking little Lance might have just given the police the weapon used to break those windows) obviously Justin knew that something was going to go down, his brother had a baseball bat with him in the middle of winter.  Justin then watched this all unfold and gave Lance a ride back.  He wasn’t charged with anything why?

  5. A baby daddy beatin’ on a baby daddy in the name of a baby daddy.  Ain’t it grand? What could possibly go wrong? Lance carries a bat just in case?  Sounds like the family enforcer or something.

As evidenced by the broken house windows reported, an awful lot of people would love to have an excuse to say hi in person…like rolling up on you and your brother beating on someone in a public space…some good samaritan might have to intervene…

If little Ayla  had grown up in that family, odds are she would have followed the cycle and examples of her “family”.  So sad. It’s epidemic though.

  6. I don’t like to point fingers or draw conclusions and have tried to keep an open mind in this case.  My only concern was for finding Ayla safe and sound!  With that said I now think it is about time the police stepped up the pressure on certain family members.  I am beginning to think the whole family is strange and I now believe that more than one family member is involved in some way.  I am certain that I would not want them living next door to me!

  7. Im thinking this behavior and an I Q test in Brothers Di Pietro and we would have the answer to this crime !

    1. I think brothers DiPetro are getting a little nervous as they watch the whole thing play out.  Good.  They should be.  They must have a pill for their nervousness.  That’ll work temporarily.  They know who to call to get one.  Poor Ayla.

  8. Baseball bat….really? Why beat someone up for words, they can’t hurt you. Ayla is missimg….you losers were the last ones to see her. Spill……where is she?

    1. hmmmmmmmmmmmm baseball bat. Weren’t the windows in the house of Justin broken with something like a baseball bat…..what is going on with this family?????/

  9.  Isn’t the American Dream the OPPORTUNITY to work as hard as you want at whatever you want and KEEP most of the fruits of your labor?  The American Dream has nothing to do with consumption and possession of material things.  Although, that may be the unfortunate view that some people have of it now that the definition has been corrupted by years of social entitlement programs.

    1. yes it is, very well said. I would love to be in the 1%, but do not begrudge the 1% that they have been successful…..that too is the American Dream…

  10. Just trying to live?  Your not just getting by when you have cell phones, cars, laptops, etc…I know people that are “just getting by” and they walk to WORK everyday.  They go to the library to use the computer and — and get this — have a land line and no cell phone.  That to me is just getting by — not the depiction that these beings are displaying.

    1. some people choose to use a cell phone rather then a land line, if you look at the facts… a land line in some instances is more expensive then a cell.   39.99 plus taxes vs 25.oo on a track phone.

  11. The American dream is built on hard work, smart decisions, and determination, not feeling that you should get it because other people who work hard get it.

  12. Hmmm…Me thinks that maybe Justin Linnell has information about the DiPietro’s that they don’t want spread around.

  13. The american dream is alot of things . hard work is one but us as americans  should take care of each other not everyone is lazy or doesnt  want to work. we live in a state with a high rate of mental illness. we live in a state with low paying jobs and a high cost of living. we live in a state with high drug use cause its so desolate theres nothing for these people to do. theres alot of reasons . and all you people shatting on people cause they need aid dont forget you may need it someday. anything can happen. god didnt put us all here to shat on each other.

    1. That’s why people who aspire for more than drugs go to college and meet other respectable people and plan their lives accordingly.  Yeah, not everyone can afford college, but there are several ways, especially for those who have no reportable income. Then you meet a girl/boy with more aspirations than procreating, they take their pill every morning and keep plugging on….next thing you know, you got a future.  Real hard to figure out.  Not.

      1. yeah in fantasy land. there are alot of people on aid that do all those great things. but then something might happen and you cant work and you need help. In a perfect world everyone would do what you describe. but fact is there are people with drug problems and mental illness  and disabilities . should those people just be thrown to the waste side ?

  14. why are they fighting each other?why don’t they take this energy and put it towards finding this precious little girl, they can fight all they want ,isn’t gonna help her any.or try telling the truth so they can help her …just sayin

    1. Because they’re lazy, stupid morons who committed or covered up a murder and I’m sure the police are watching their every move;  it’s called paranoia.

    2. They are fighting because thats ingrained in their DNA ! I would test them for the Warrior Gene ? And i think their cuz was saying stuff about the family that they didnt want anybody to know, especially the law enforcement !

    1. And if the stories are not true?, what would you do? It’s just not a good idea to fill in one’s own facts as one thinks might have happened. Better to wait for the real police work to run it’s course.

    2. You mean the sisters ex with a grudge and a restraining order/order of protection against him who may simply be using the current situation to cause problems. He’s not exactly the upstanding citizen himself.

  15. Secrets never stay hidden as someone in the know always forgets who knows this or that and eventually spills the beans. That’s when the tension builds. That’s what we’re seeing now with busted windows  and physical assaults. It won’t be long now.

  16. How many people here should be ashamed of their pettiness but are instead brashly showing us their prejudice? When I see people in need the last thing I am concerned with is ‘Have they worked for everything they have?’ Judging by the comments of many here there are vast differences in the manner you and I view the world.

When I see a homeless person I wonder if there is anything I can do to help. When you see a homeless person you wonder how they can afford a cellphone if they’re homeless, or why your tax dollars (amounting to about $0.12 yearly) are paying for it. Perhaps if people had different attitudes concerning those in need there wouldn’t be as many people in need.

Have a nice day, and don’t forget to remind yourself you’re a good christian, no matter how judgemental you are.

      1. it has everything to do with the missing little girls enviroment. drug dealers ect. shes missing because of the family she was living with. not people in general . justin and his family .

  17. There sure are a lot of  hostile people in the DiPietro family who can’t control their tempers… lets see, there is Justin, his brother Lance and their mother – all hotheads!!! I wonder what the sister is like… she hasn’t been involved in anything related to actually trying to find Ayla – all she’s done is keep her mouth shut about what she heard/saw the night she disappeared and hide. She sounds like a real loving aunt… NOT.

  18. I am beginning to think someone has dropped the ball big time on this case!! Way too many questions with out sensible answers..in the meantime this poor baby is “Out There” somewhere..we have become a sick society when stories like this pop up on a weekly basis!
