BUCKSPORT – Faye R. Hayes, 73, died peacefully Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2012, surrounded by her loving family at an Ellsworth hospital, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. She was born Aug. 8, 1938, in Old Town, daughter of Lester and Dora (Dube) Pelletier.
She retired from Fleet Bank after many years and returned to the health care field as a certified nurse’s aide for 10 years. Taking care of others is what she did best. Faye, fondly known as mum and nana to her family, was an avid cribbage player and enjoyed competitive games with her family, always finding a way to win, one way or another! Spending time with her family was the most important thing to Faye and Beano with her friends was a close second. She would make every family outing but would often have to leave early to make her Beano game. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and had special relationships with everyone she met and knew. Faye loved to shop, always excited to call her daughter and granddaughter to tell them about the good bargains she found that day, if she wasn’t already with them. Faye loved her family and friends. She touched more lives with her beautiful and amazing spirit, more than she ever knew. We hope she knows now.
She is survived by three sons, Joey of Elkhart, Ind., John and wife, Jessica, of Bucksport and Jason and wife, Sherry, of Grovetown, Ga.; daughter, Jody Braley and husband, Brian, of Orland; grandchildren, Amanda and significant other, Scott, Shane, Kyle, Haley, Zara, Kristen, Corey, Ashley, Brittany, Todd, Matthew, Jonathon, Leslie, Cara, Tyler, Skye, Zowie and their mom, Shannon; great-grandchildren, Cody and Paige; two brothers, Pat Pelletier and wife, Gina, of Old Town and Alan Pelletier of Orono; sister, Donna Braun and husband, Fred, of Virginia; and many special friends, old and new, who loved, supported and meant the world to her. In addition to her parents, Fay was predeceased by a very special son, Jimmy; and granddaughter, Kymmie.
Family and friends will gather for visitation 4-6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, at Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport. A Mass of Christian burial will celebrated 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 17, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with Father Bruce Siket, celebrant. Donations in Faye’s memory may be made to Mary Dow Center and/or The Palliative Care Suite at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital, 50 Union St., Ellsworth, ME 04605.
