PORTSMOUTH, N.H. — The center span recently removed from a bridge shared by Maine and New Hampshire has floated out to sea aboard a barge, on its way to a recycling center.
The span was removed from the 90-year-old bridge last week. The barge was inspected by the Coast Guard before it could take off Wednesday.
The Portsmouth Herald reported the span is expected to be taken to a scrap yard in the Boston area.
A new bridge connecting Portsmouth, N.H., to Kittery, Maine, is expected to open in July 2013.

And i bet the contractor that removed it never deducted a cent on this job for the monet they will make on recycling this steel. I bet he makes a killing at 300 dollars a ton !
You have read the contract?
If he didn’t factor it in, he put himself at a bidding disadvantage.
Not everyone is stupid, ricky.
They better hope the bridge span has a ‘ ME-MA 5 cent ‘ deposit stamp on it or the recycling center might report them.
