GARLAND – Kenneth R. Murray Sr., 84, died Feb. 22, 2012, surrounded by family and friends at his home. He was born Feb. 28, 1927, in Corinna, son of Wilfred and Grace (Giles) Murray.

He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany during World War II. Ken married the love of his life, the late Marian (White) Murray, June 5, 1948. He went to work at Fay Scott Landis, Dexter, in 1949, retiring in 1989. Ken was a charter member of Garland Fire Department, where he served for 40 years. He was a member of Garland Baptist Church for many years, and served the church as a deacon. At age 62, Ken was proud to receive his GED from Dexter Regional High School. He loved family gatherings, camping and fishing.

He is survived by three daughters, Sharon and her husband, Joe Lancaster, of Milo, Joyce and her husband, Michael Brunk, of Dexter, and Jayne and her husband, Rick Thompson, of Garland; son, Kenneth Murray Jr. and his wife, Angie, of Garland; three brothers, Darrell, Mervin and Royce; two sisters, Pauline and Charlotte; half sister, Margaret; three half brothers, Jerry, Richard and Joey; 15 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, and many special friends. He was predeceased by his wife, Marian; brother, Floyd; grandson, Richard Thompson III; and great-grandson, Colby.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, at Crosby & Neal, 61 Main St., Dexter, with Pastors Robert Young and Barry Buzzell officiating. Friends may call noon until the time of the service.
