BUCKSPORT – Leslie Kermit Johnson, 92, died peacefully March 14, 2012, at the Maine Veterans Home, Bangor, after a long illness. He was born Oct. 1, 1919, son of Leslie B. and Doris (Black) Johnson.

He grew up on the farm in North Orland, attended Bucksport High School and Higgins Classical Institute, and served a term in the U.S. Army just before World War II. He worked many years as a farmer and auto mechanic in Maine and Massachusetts, and was on the auxiliary police force while living in Gloucester, Mass. He was a longtime member of East Bucksport United Methodist Church; Victory Grange, North Orland; Bucksport Rod and Gun Club; and the American Legion.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Roberta (Ginn) Johnson; three children, Dexter Johnson and wife, Sheila, of North Orland, Barbara Keith and husband, Edson, of Farmington, N.H., and Laurence Johnson of Ocala, Fla.; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; and one brother, Benjamin H. Johnson.

Family and friends will gather for visitation 11 a.m. until the time of service noon Saturday, March 17, at Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport, with Pastor Peter Remick officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Leslie’s name may be made to East Bucksport United Methodist Church, care of Joyce Johnson, P.O. Box 551, Bucksport, ME 04416.
