ORONO – Annie Mable Speed, 88, of Orono Commons, went peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior April 9, 2012, after a long illness. Annie was born July 4, 1923, in Bradford, the daughter of Fred and Edna (Smith) Speed.

On Monday night she was reunited with the parents she loved; her three brothers, James, Daniel and Lawrence Speed; three sisters, Vernesiah Freeman, Genieve Cookson and Patricia Michalski; along with three infant sisters, Leona, Ruth and Rebecca Speed. Annie leaves behind two sisters, C. Luella Snow of Pelham, N.H., and Shirley Harris and her husband, Richard, of Charleston; and a special niece, Janice Zoerhide of Glenburn, who was her loving caregiver during her illness. She also is survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Annie was a loving daughter, sister and aunt who selflessly gave of her time and talents to those she loved. She always expected little and gave much. She gave much love to all the children in the family and spent many hours being a special “Auntie/Grammy” to Cassie, Cheryl and Cameron. She had a strong faith and love for the Lord and offered many prayers and words of encouragement for the family. She would often share in conversation, verses that were special to her. One of her favorites was Proverbs 10:22, “The blessing of the Lord it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.” Annie wasn’t rich by this world’s standards but great will be her reward in heaven.

A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, April 13, at Hillside Cemetery, Bradford, with Pastor Donald Booker officiating. Special thanks to the staff at Orono Commons and the hospice workers for the care they gave her. Please visit
