MILLINOCKET – Sylvio Joseph Cyr, 80, passed away Thursday, May 3, 2012, at a local hospital. He was born June 30, 1931, in Millinocket, son of John M. and Domitile (Caron) Cyr.
Sylvio went to work at age 14 at Great Northern Paper Co., where he worked for more than 40 years. He graduated from Stearns High School, class of 1950. Sylvio joined the service during the Korean War. He proudly served his country for a number of years. When he wasn’t working he enjoyed doing crafts, such as woodworking and carpentry. During his younger years he was an avid bowler. He was a life member of Knights of Columbus Council No. 680, where he enjoyed playing cards with his old buddies. He liked getting out and taking walks around the neighborhood.
Sylvio is survived by a son, Paul R.; daughter, Dianne Tapley and husband, Wally; grandson, Ryan Tapley and wife, Erica, of Corinth; granddaughter, Lindsey Tapley of Brunswick; sister, Sadie DelNegro of Waterbury, Conn.; special sister-in-law, Monique Jacques of Millinocket; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Louise M. Cyr; daughter-in-law, Ellen Cyr; and 11 siblings.
Friends may visit with the family 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, May 5, at Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket, where Knights of Columbus Council No. 680 will conduct a prayer service 11 a.m., and a funeral service will be celebrated at noon with the Rev. Joel Cyr officiating. Interment with military honors will be afterward at Millinocket Cemetery.
