SKOWHEGAN – Lawrin Raymond “Scoop” Demo, 62, passed away Monday, May 7, 2012, at his home. He was born Feb. 9, 1950, in Lincoln, the son of Raymond and Jeanette (Hainer) Demo.

After graduating from Skowhegan High School, class of 1969, Lawrin worked for C.F. Yeaton, Fox & Ginn, Cho-Bo Freight Co., and Skowhegan Water Co. He volunteered for many years at Skowhegan Fire Department. Lawrin owned and operated a sawmill, Rent-A-Scoop and K & L Demo Transport. Lawrin had been a member of Skowhegan Sportsman Club, the Elks, and past president of Skowhegan Sno-Hawks. Lawrin had many interests and hobbies. He enjoyed ice hockey, skiing, scuba diving, flying remote control planes, trapping, hunting and spending time at camp.

He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Karen (Butler) Demo of Skowhegan; his mother, Jeanette Demo of Skowhegan; his sons, Chad Demo of Skowhegan, Lawrin Christopher Demo and his wife, Alana, and granddaughter, Lauren Raye Demo, all of Georgetown; his brother, Mark Demo and his wife, Christine, of Skowhegan; his nephew, Rodney Demo of Canaan; his niece, Sarah Demo of Skowhegan; brother-in-law, Philip Butler and his wife, Lynn, of North Carolina; sister-in-law, Diane Quirion and her husband, Bruce, of Norridgewock; past and present employees were like family to him. He will be greatly missed by his loyal companions, Baxter, Mugs and Diesel.

Visiting hours will be held 10-11 a.m. Saturday, May 12, at Centenary United Methodist Church, Dr. Mann Road, Skowhegan. A celebration of life will be held 11 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes those desiring to honor Lawrin’s memory support the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, attention: Tribute Gifts, Church Street Station, P.O. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan.
