BENTON – Michael D. Leighton, 52, of Bellsqueeze Road, passed away Thursday, May 3, 2012, at his home, after a short battle with cancer. He was born June 12, 1959, in Pensacola, Fla., the son of Carroll and Betty Leighton.
Mike graduated from Bangor High School in 1977 and began working with Waterville Police Department in 1978. He started his own company called Probe Investigations, Waterville, in 1982, and later began another company called Sentry Security, Main Street, Waterville. He sold Sentry Security in 1996, but continued to operate Probe Investigations, also known as Pigroup Inc. until his death. Mike was a member of Waterville Elks. He enjoyed all sorts of sports such as NASCAR, football, the Red Sox, fishing and boating in the ocean. He also loved having family get-togethers and cookouts. He also enjoyed spending time with his two grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Sandy, of Benton, Mike is survived by his parents, Betty and Carroll Leighton of Bangor; daughters, Tiffany Batts and husband, Brian, of Sugarhill, Ga., and Kymberlee Leighton of Winslow; grandchildren, Caleb and Lexi Batts of Sugarhill, Ga.; sister, Becky Moore and husband, Ray, of Glenburn; brother, Tom Leighton of Augusta; niece, Jen Leighton of Glenburn; and stepson, Rob Willette of Orr’s Island.
A celebration of his life will be held 1 p.m. Friday, May 11, at Stetson’s Funeral Home, 12 Federal St., Brunswick. A reception will be afterward at Kennebec Tavern, Bath. Memorial condolences may be expressed at
