BREWER – Hazel E. “Betty” Cohen, 102, passed away Monday, May 28, 2012, at her residence. Betty was born March 25, 1910, in East Millinocket, daughter of Emerson and Mary (Thompson) Vance.

Betty led a full life. She was a model and manager of the women’s department for Chain Apparel Store, Presque Isle; she owned and operated her own small restaurant in Albany, N.Y.; she was employed in the food service department for the New York Department of Education and catered private parties; she enjoyed cooking, crafts, traveling, and time with family and friends. Her strong, independent spirit helped her to cope with life’s challenges. She brought laughter and joy to all who knew her … and was affectionately known as “Gram” to the staff at the Woodlands of Brewer.

Betty is survived by her son, Ronald N. Cohen, of York, Pa.; two nieces and a nephew, Polly Boynton of Millinocket, Maryann Brown of Waterville and Florida, and Bud Campbell of Millinocket; seven grandchildren, Cyndi, Debbie and Phil Cohen of Pennsylvania, Nancy Jones, Karen Ayotte, Nola Welch and Dennis Rush, all of Millinocket; and several great-grandchildren.

Friends and family may attend a celebration of life memorial service 10 a.m. Saturday, June 2, at Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket, with the Rev. Ian Shearer officiating. Gifts in Betty’s memory may be made to Beacon Hospice, 304 Hancock St., Suite 3A, Bangor, ME
