SKOWHEGAN, Maine — A Maine beekeeper says someone stole 20 to 25 crates full of his bees valued at close to $3,000.
Bob Egan said he got the crates ready on Thursday to deliver them the following day to a buyer. But when he backed up his truck to load the bees Friday morning, they were gone.
Egan told WABI-TV that it’s pretty scary to think that people are stealing stinging insects in boxes.
He asked people to be on the lookout for the pastel-colored crates.

That’s what you call “catching a buzz” in Skowhegan.
Who steals Bee’s? Really? Thats the oddest thing I think I’ve heard of something that was stolen.
Be on the lookout for a yellow bear in a red shirt and no pants. Maybe wearing a striped yellow and black shirt with wings on the back. Know aliases are: Winnie the Pooh, Pooh-bear, and/or Pooh.
The police are hoping to arrange a sting.
You catch more thieves with honey than you do with vinegar.
Copper and brass works well , also.
Honey : Liquid Gold.
People will steal anything of any value these days. Bees have a tremendous value to gardeners etc. This is very sad and I hope they catch the person. Better yet………..I hope the thief has a bee allergy!!!
At $100 per nuc (you can get 2 nuc’s out of each 10 frame hive) I’m surprised this hasn’t happened sooner. Especially the Southern pollination hives left in the blueberry fields.
Meanwhile, today’s NY Post has a story of how, with more people keeping hives, the city has turned into an Alfred Hitchcock movie set, complete with photos of street signs and hydrants covered with them!
To the dumbarse that stole the bees: Bring them back, they are someone’s livelihood. Stealing those bees may have been a prank, or maybe you did it so you could sell them for drugs, however they weren’t yours. You may have been able to work out a deal if you had needed them for a ligit reason. You stole them instead. SHAME ON YOU!
