NEWBURGH – Rodney Allen Porter, 68, passed away peacefully June 6, 2012, surrounded by his loving family at a Bangor hospital. Rodney was born July 22, 1943, in Newburgh, to Percy M. and Belle O. (Peirce) Porter.
Rodney grew up in Newburgh before serving his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. Rodney worked as a civil engineer at the city of Bangor’s steam plant and later for Hampden Fire Department for more than 25 years. Rodney loved being outdoors working in his gardens, boating, snowmobiling and spending time with his family. Rodney will be remembered by all, for his kind-heartedness and gentle smile, and as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.
Rodney is survived by his wife, Lorraine L. (Smith) Porter of Newburgh; two sons, Robert A. Porter of Belfast and Scott L. Porter; grandson, Zakk Rodney Porter, both of Newburgh; brother, Dana Porter and wife, Carol; three sisters, Clara Reed, Dorothy Richardson and Cleora McCoy; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Rodney was predeceased by his parents; and two brothers, Robert and Richard.
A private graveside service for Rodney will be held at Brookside Cemetery, Newburgh.
