WATERVILLE, Maine — At least 11 businesses were hit by spray paint early Wednesday morning and police are searching for suspects.

Waterville police Sgt. Alan Main said the incidents are not gang-related and no business in particular was a target.

“Just somebody out and about with a paint can putting little messages on [walls] and whatever,” he said.

The green and black numbers and messages were painted between midnight and 6 a.m. in the downtown area, according to Main.

Most of the business owners were in process of cleaning up the paint on Wednesday, Main said.

The offenses carry a misdemeanor criminal mischief charge. Police don’t have any suspects, but anyone with information can contact Waterville police at 680-4700.
