FALMOUTH, Maine — A Cumberland woman is dead and a South Portland man is in the hospital after a one-vehicle accident early Friday, according to police.
Casey Green, 22, died at Maine Medical Center shortly after the 2:45 a.m. crash on Route 100 in Falmouth, according to Falmouth police Chief Ed Tolan.
The vehicle’s other occupant, Matthew Blanchard, 24, was transported to Maine Medical Center with injuries not considered life threatening, Tolan said. He would not disclose who was driving, since the crash remains under investigation.
The Chevy Cobalt was heading northbound on Route 100 when it left the roadway on a curve, veered across the southbound lane and struck a tree.
Tolan said there were no skid marks on the roadway or signs of excessive speed. The vehicle was demolished.

Sad another death on Maine’s highways.I would like to see a comparison from 6 months of last year compared to this year so far. It seems like we are ahead of last year, unfortunetly.
One has been released. I heard it on the radio yesterday, during the news. I wish I could remember what the numbers were. You are right though, we are ahead of last year.
I believe this makes 69 so far this year. From what I could find on line the numbers are up nearly 53% from this time last year. If my math is right so far it’s averaging out to a death roughly every two and a half days.
Thanks.
I have lost track of the small cars that pass me on the turnpike going over 90 with a young woman behind the wheel talking on the phone. I do call 911 and have had 2 caught that I know of. Completely insane and sad at the same time. So unnecessary…….
