OOLTEWAH, Tenn. – Leo A. Madore Sr., 88, passed away June 19, 2012, at home with family by his side. He was born Oct. 7, 1923, in Millinocket, to Leon and Leonie Madore.
After high school Leo enlisted in the U.S. Army at age 19 and served 10 months. Due to a pre-existing medical condition he was honorably discharged Nov. 27, 1943, and returned to Millinocket. Soon after he met Dolores Currier in the nearby town of Lincoln and they were married in 1946. They enjoyed 66 years together, living in Lincoln; Fort Myers, Fla.; and Ooltewah, Tenn. Leo worked for Standard Packaging, Lincoln, for Drakes Bakery – now Borden and John J. Nissan Bakery. He and Dee migrated to Florida in 1978, where Leo worked for the Florida Department of Transportation. Leo was a member of Knights of Columbus of Old Town, Lincoln Rotary Club and Carl Burrill Post of the American Legion, Lincoln. After moving to Fort Myers, Fla., he became a member the 18-hole golf league of the community of Seven Lakes. He was active in Seven Lakes Men’s Club and was formally honored with a recognition plaque for his service as a member. As a father, he was actively involved in his children’s activities including being present at all their sports and other activities, and umpiring Little League baseball games.
Leo is survived by his wife, Dolores Currier Madore of Ooltewah, Tenn.; sister, Irene Madore Testa of Fort Myers, Fla.; son, Leo A. Madore II and wife, Jan of Cape Coral, Fla.; daughter, Beth Madore Whitten and husband, Charlie, of Ooltewah, Tenn.; and son, Tim and wife, Pam, of Amarillo, Texas. In addition to his three children, he is survived by eight grandchildren 13 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, Leon and Leonie; two brothers, Raymond and Edward; and three sisters Jeanette Madore Cyr, Eva Madore Gelinas and Doris Madore Murray.
