PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Two people escaped serious injury on Monday after a two-car crash on Route 163.
Dora Pelkey, 49, of New Brunswick was westbound on the roadway when she attempted to turn left onto State Street Extension, according to Presque Isle police.
Elizabeth Lilley, 49, of Presque Isle was headed east on the roadway when Pelkey crossed into her lane to make the left turn.
Both drivers attempted to avoid each other but the vehicles struck head on.
Lilley was able to exit her 2005 Ford Explorer truck, but the Presque Isle Fire Department had to used extrication equipment to free Pelkey from her 2003 Buick Century.
Both were taken by Crown Ambulance to The Aroostook Medical Center in Presque Isle.
Lilley was treated for chest and side pain and later was released.
Pelkey sustained a dislocated arm and broken wrist and was admitted to the hospital to undergo surgery, according to police.
Both drivers were wearing their seat belts, and both vehicles were considered total losses.

Hey Charlie…..Another wreck, but the drivers are in their 40’s. Maybe you should look at exploring tougher restrictions on drivers over say………. age 25.
They are very lucky to have escaped with their lives, there have been too many bad accidents up here lately. I wish that people would slow down and pay attention to what they’re doing.
