ROCKLAND, Maine — A 35-year-old Searsmont woman escaped injury Tuesday afternoon when her sports utility vehicle flipped on a busy road.

Jill Artkop was driving on Route 17 by Chickawaukie Lake when she lost control of her Chevy TrailBlazer and it flipped shortly before 5 p.m., according to Rockland Deputy Police Chief Wally Tower. The vehicle landed on its roof in a shallow ravine.

The woman declined medical attention.

No cause of the crash has been determined.

  1. People don’t lose control for no reason. With accidents without any reason maybe the person’s cell phone should be checked and probably most of the time the reason will be found.

  2. A single car accident, driver lost control, no mention of drugs or booze, no one hurt.

    And it makes the news.

  3. What SHOULD have made the news was the accident between the fire truck and the police cruiser responding to the scene! Firetruck came up behind traffic on Tillson, went around and took a right onto Main Street, right as a cruiser was heading north on Main. Fire truck sideswiped said cruiser and pushed him right up onto the sidewalk in front of the Island Institute building. Not sure who was at fault, but I’m betting it was the somewhat erratic driver of the fire truck.

    1. Yes, Rockland’s Main Street is pretty hairy.  It’s narrow and busy, especially on a summer day with lots of traffic, parked cars, pedestrians, and intersections.
