FALMOUTH, Maine — A California man didn’t reach high speeds during a pursuit Sunday, but he is facing serious charges after attempting to run down an officer, according to police.
Falmouth police Officer Steve Townsend had attempted to stop Daniel Stasulis, 55, of Santa Maria, Calif., for speeding on Middle Road around 3:45 p.m., Falmouth police Lt. John Kilbride said.
Stasulis refused to pull over and led police on an eight-mile chase at speeds topping off at 50 mph, according to Kilbride.
Officers from Falmouth, Cumberland and Yarmouth pursued Stasulis, according to Kilbride, and when spike strips were deployed, Stasulis swerved and nearly ran down an Yarmouth officer with his Chevy pickup truck.
Police managed to puncture Stasulis’ tires on the second attempt, Kilbride said, and his truck went off the road in Yarmouth and he was placed under arrest.
Kilbride said there was no evidence of drugs in Stasulis’ vehicle, and the pursuit remained on back roads, never reaching Route 1.
Stasulis was arrested and booked on charges of aggravated reckless conduct, a Class B felony, and eluding a police officer, a Class C felony. He was taken to the Cumberland County Jail, where he remained Monday.
Stasulis is scheduled to appear in court later Monday.

What a clown! I hope he gets some jail time for acting so foolishly. You would think at his age he would know better. Californian…….
I will chip in to send him to the middle east. Anybody else?
I would bet that he had something to hide. It probably went out the window or was swallowed.
No not the Middle East I was thinking N Korea to a ‘ re-education camp’
when Carter was president he asked Cuba to free their political prisoners and we would take them.. They sent all their insane peoeple over and laughed at Jimmy.
It’s not like he’s acting any differently than a native Mainer. Maybe he’s just trying to blend in………..
