BREWER – Edward J. Healy passed away Monday, July 30, 2012, at a Brewer rehabilitation and nursing facility. He was born March 29, 1924, in Hoboken,county of Hudson, N.J., the son of Captain George H. Healy and Grace Amelia (Weeks) Healy.
He was a well-known local artist and musician. He attended Province Bible Institute, but was a self-taught artist and started taking piano lessons when he was 8 years old. He was art director of ABI, art director for MPBN, a court artist and was an art teacher for more than 60 years. He was a past member of Brewer and Bangor Breakfast Kiwanis Club, where he played music for their meetings. He also was the pianist who played for lunch and dinner music at Thistle’s Restaurant. He was organist at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Essex Street Baptist Church, Brewer First Congregational Church, Calvary Baptist Church, St. Anne’s Catholic Church, Bradley; Presbyterian Church, Bangor; Brewer Second Congregational Church and was last organist at North Brewer-Eddington United Methodist Church.
He is survived by a daughter, Pam Healy of Presque Isle; and a cousin, Mrs. Jim “Bunny” Scribner of California. He leaves many loving friends, Lynn Craig of Presque Isle, David and Caroline Stevens of Bangor, Carol and Smitty Smith of Hampden and Herbert Hopkins of Eddington, who he thought of as a brother; many artist friends of Bangor Art Society, like Kristborg Whitney of Bangor, Valerie McClead of Holden, Renate Carabella of Detroit, Rita Haunert of Bangor, Tim Dauphinee of Brewer, Peggy Volock of Old Town, Helena Bosse of Milford, Hessa Schneider of Bangor and many others. He was predeceased by his wife, Marian Healy; and special friend, Joanne Johnson. Ed’s family and friends especially thank the staff at Brewer Kindred Nursing Facility for their loving care.
A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, at First United Methodist Church, 40 South Main St., Brewer, with the Rev. Dr. Tracy Reeves, pastor, presiding. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Brewer. after the service. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ed’s memory may be made to the music fund of North Brewer-Eddington United Methodist Church, care of Melva Kent, 196 Main Road, Eddington, ME 04428.
