MARS HILL – Louise A. Ford, 84, passed away Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012, at Madigan Estates, Houlton. She was born April 5, 1928, in Mars Hill, the daughter of the late Harley York Sr. and Laura (Broad) York.
After graduating from Aroostook Central Institute, Louise worked at various office positions, including Gordon College, A&P grocery store and eventually Liberty Mutual Insurance Co., Portsmouth, N.H., where she retired. After retirement she returned to Maine and focused her energy on playing the piano for various churches in the area and helping with a card ministry. While she loved playing the piano for congregations, her favorite ministry was playing for children, especially Child Evangelism Fellowship. She also filled her retirement years with reading, sewing, crafts, Bible studies and extensive travel across the U.S., including visits to Alaska, Mexico and Canada. Louise loved spending time with her family and friends, and always insisted that they stay for some sort of a meal. She was a conservative and enjoyed lively discussions about politics. She was especially proud of the fact that she voted in every national and state election from the time she was able to vote.
Louise is survived by her daughter, Peggy and her husband, Arthur Flint, of Del Rio, Texas; grandchildren, Robin Flint of Del Rio, Texas, and Eric Flint of San Marcos, Texas; her brother and wife, Harley and Loree York Jr. of Mars Hill; and her sisters, Marion Gilman of Mars Hill and Avis Laing of Berwick. She will also be missed by several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may call 1-2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28, at Duncan Funeral Home, Mars Hill, where a service will be held 2 p.m. with the Rev. Lawrence Beals officiating. Interment will be at Kings Grove Cemetery, Mars Hill. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Child Evangelism Fellowship, P.O. Box 28, Mars Hill, ME 04758.
