PRESQUE ISLE – Gertrude Elizabeth (Anderson) Christie, 95, passed away Aug. 24, 2012, at Aroostook Health Center, Mars Hill. She was born Aug. 29, 1916, in Oxbow Plantation, the daughter of Hugh and Lena (Pelletier) Anderson.
Gertrude graduated from Northern Maine Vocational Technical Institute and was a licensed practical nurse. She worked for A.R. Gould Memorial Hospital and for Dr. Harry Helfrich. She was a member of Mapleton United Methodist Church since 1937, a member of Pythian Sisters Lodge for 76 years, the Presque Isle Curling Club and Presque Isle Country Club.
She is survived by a daughter, Sylvia Bridgham and her husband, Dan; her son, L. Alexander Christie and his wife, Audrey, all of Mapleton; four grandsons, Karl Hoffses and his wife, Theresa, of Beaverton, Ore., Scott Hoffses of Presque Isle, Edward Christie and his wife, Laurie, of New Sweden and Mark Christie and his wife, Lynn, of Mapleton; four great-grandchildren, Karley and Mitchell Hoffses of Oregon, Ashley and Andrew Christie of New Sweden; a sister, Velma Goding Sherman of Florida; several nieces and nephews. Gertrude was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Lewis F. Christie; four brothers and two sisters.
A celebration of her life will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7, at Mapleton United Methodist Church with a time to greet the family before the service 1-2 p.m. The Rev. Dorothy Matson will officiate. Interment will be at Fairmount Cemetery, Presque Isle.
