PORTLAND, Maine — A Scarborough man who allegedly assaulted a woman and then left her injured in the street is facing felony charges, according to police.

Police went to Montgomery Street around 3 a.m. Thursday and found the victim lying unconscious in the street, according to a news release from Portland Assistant Police Chief Vernon Malloch.

Witnesses led police to Eric Gwaro, 28, according to the release. He attempted to elude police, but was captured in Peppermint Park on Cumberland Avenue, the release stated.

Gwaro was booked into the Cumberland County Jail on a Class B felony charge of aggravated assault.

The woman suffered facial and skull fractures and was admitted to Maine Medical Center in Portland. Due to the extent of her injuries, police have yet to interview her.

Gwaro’s bail was set at $10,000 cash. He faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted.

    1. So…I don’t get it. What’s with the black people wearing the wool knit caps all year round? I realize that this tough guy is an egg head, but does his head really get cold when it’s 80 degrees outside? And they wear them indoors too, and it doesn’t matter if they have a big bushy hairdo, or if they’re bald.
      I saw one a month ago on one of the really hot humid days, with the dreadlocks going on and a wool cap pulled over that mess. That had to stink.

  2. I think is a slam on all decent men to refer to batterers as men. They may be males but they are clearly not men because they have a whole lot of growing up to do. What the headline should say is “Scarborough Resident….”

  3. “Scarborough man accused of leaving woman unconscious after assault”.  Does this mean that he would have gotten off if he had left her conscious after assaulting her?
