BANGOR, Maine — A Bangor man who reportedly was out on bail for a recent arrest for driving under the influence was arrested on the same charge last week, Bangor police Sgt. Larry Weber said Wednesday night.

Scott D. Kennedy, 42, also is charged with driving with a suspended license, leaving the scene of a property damage accident and violating his bail conditions in connection with a series of incidents that happened on Oct. 3, Weber said, citing a police report.

Weber said that Bangor police arrested Kennedy after receiving a call about a visibly intoxicated patron of Miguel’s Mexican Restaurant on Hogan Road who was seen driving toward Interstate 95.

The license plate number and vehicle description provided to police by witnesses enabled officers to link Kennedy with a hit-and-run property damage crash that occurred earlier the same day, Weber said.

When a city police officer caught up with Kennedy at his home on Fern Street, he noted that the suspect vehicle had damage that appeared to be consistent with the earlier accident, Weber said.

When Kennedy opened his door in response to the police officer’s knocking, he reportedly exhibited signs of having consumed alcohol, including slurred speech, bloodshot and glassy eyes and the odor of alcohol coming from his mouth.

The arrest report indicated that Kennedy denied being at Miguel’s and denied having hit another vehicle, Weber said. He said that Kennedy also told police that no one else had been driving his car.

        1. It does willpower to overcome an addiction. But willpower alone won’t do it. If you have never lived with an alcoholic, you cannot understand how completely the disease takes over. It is a progressive illness and takes away everything the alcoholic has and is. Even after getting help, this disease will try to reestablish itself in a myriad of ways. It can be incredible to watch.

Part of getting sober is learning the tools to stay sober. Those tools are different for everyone. I know of someone who was sober for 16 years, a real AA success story, then he relapsed. He is still out there, divorced, his business gone etc. Another person I know of was sober for 8 years, had a fight with his wife, drank and burned their house down, nearly killing himself in the process. After surviving burns to 80% of his body, he was tried and convicted on the arson charge and sentenced to 15 years in prison. After less than a year, he hung himself in his cell.

Mental illness almost always goes hand in hand with alcoholism. It doesn’t really matter which came first, illness or addiction, both have to be treated.

I hope Mr. Kennedy will see that he has a problem. Let’s face it, normal people will comply with conditions to stay out of jail, Mr Kennedy, very likely, CANNOT comply. There is help out there. If he can’t afford inpatient treatment, which is what he really needs, he should at least get to AA where anybody would be glad to help him, before he hurts himself or somebody else.

    1. Walmart and LLBean are one in the same, clothes made in China….LOL Just one charges 3 times what its worth.

  1. blah, blah, blah……. I am sure he is out already. Yet another slap on the wrist. Could have been a kid that he hit earlier… then what… or is that what they are waiting for before they arrest him and lock him up for a very long time.

  2. When the texting fatalities outnumber the drinking ones, will we treat all texters as immoral scum and a danger to civilization?
