PEMBROKE – Pembroke – Robert Howard MacAllister, 80, passed away at home, Oct. 24, 2012 with family by his side. He was born March 29, 1932, in Boston, the son of George F. and Florence M. (Johnson) MacAllister.
Bob grew up in Weymouth, Mass., in the loving care of his grandparents, George and Mary. He was surrounded by aunts and uncles, Pearl, Mary, Robert, Joseph, Howard and Florence and grew up in many ways a younger sibling to them. As a boy Bob enjoyed summers with his father, George and caring stepmother, Betty (Watts) and his devoted and loving sisters, Joy and Waine. Bob was a graduate of Weymouth High, class of 1949. Bob also spent many summers on his Uncle Joe and Aunt Arlene’s farm in Monmouth. The Korean war emerged and he joined the Army. His military service brought him to serve in SHAPE headquarters in France from 1952 to 1955. Upon leaving military service, Bob worked for Baird Atomic Inc., in Cambridge. He was introduced to the love of his life, Ellen (Cain), a smart and energetic stewardess for Northeast airlines, who was also from Weymouth, Mass. They married Oct. 13, 1962 and soon lived in Scituate, Mass. In February of 1971, they had a son, Robert, who survives him, and currently lives in Pembroke. The family enjoyed life close to many nieces, nephews and friends. Although they loved family so much, they decided that Pembroke, was their place to be. On Sept. 29, 1978, they moved to Ox Cove Road, Pembroke. Bob worked as a carpenter for years. In 1985, he started inspecting homes for potential buyers and was the owner of Eastern Maine Home Inspections, Inc. Ellen predeceased him October 25, 2000. Despite sadness he continued his love of photography, painting and walking the shores of Passamaquoddy Bay. Bob met Ann Neville, from Machias, and the the two of them enjoyed many years together sampling great food and creating fun vacations. Although Bob struggled with illness he was a source of strength to his family.
In addition to his son, he is survived by sisters, Joy (Almquist) and Waine MacAllister; his Aunt Pearl, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held in Weymouth, Mass., at a future date. Those interested may contact Robert for information. The time and place in Weymouth, Mass., has not yet been finalized.
