WESTON – Marjorie Stewart Weyburn died peacefully on the morning of Feb. 28, 2013, at Madigan Estates, Houlton. A native of Houlton, Marjorie was born May 18, 1923, the youngest daughter of Byron and Fern Stewart of Houlton.
Marjorie is survived by her sons, Donald Byron Weyburn of Blacksburg, Va., and Robert Stewart Weyburn of Byfield, Mass.; grandchildren Audra Bennett, Jessica Jackson, Ellen Sofronas, Marianne McFerran and Lauren Weyburn, and their families, including seven great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Marjorie was predeceased by her sisters, Vallie Shaw, Pauline McGillicuddy and Ruth Bossie;
Marjorie married the late Robert O. Weyburn of Macon, Miss., June 2, 1943, while he served in the Army Air Corps on duty at Houlton Air Station. After the close of World War II, he remained on duty with the formation of the U.S. Air Force and he and Marjorie raised their sons at various duty stations. They served at Andrews Air Force Base, Pepperrell Air Force Base, Maxwell Air Force Base, Elmendorf Air Force Base, Langley Air Force Base, Eielson Air Force Base and Loring Air Force Base from which they retired in 1973. Marjorie was active in the youth programs and Wives Club, which supported the life and social demands of families in service. She served president of the Enlisted Wives Club at Maxwell Air Force Base and as hostess of Teen Club. She also worked at Elmendorf Air Force Base Dental Clinic, 1962-1966, for NASA, 1967-1969, and for Eielson Air Force Base Personnel Office, 1969-1972. After retirement they lived in Hodgdon and owned and operated Ken’s Store. Subsequently, they took up residences at East Grand Lake during the summer and Macon, Miss., during the winter. Marjorie and Bob attended Danforth Baptist Church and worked as volunteers at Living Waters Bible Camp. While wintering in Macon, where they had a ranch, they attended Macon Presbyterian Church. After her husband’s death in 2002, she later took up residence at First Settler’s Lodge, Weston.
