OLD TOWN – Helen L. Sappier, 76, died Sept. 6, 2013, at a Bangor Hospital. She was born May 20, 1937, in Orono, the daughter of Reginald H. and Ruth W. (Cushing) Sullivan.
Helen attended Orono High School where she enjoyed cheerleading. She was very proud that later in life through hard work she received her High School Diploma from Old Town High School in 1982. In her early years she was employed at Striers until becoming a Homemaker. Helen loved to travel, camping, fishing, hunting, playing cards with her friends, cooking, and antiquing. She was a member of the St. Anne’s Catholic Church on Indian Island. Helen enjoyed taking care of her granddaughter, grandson, and most recently enjoyed meeting her great-granddaughter.
In addition to her parents, Helen was predeceased by two brothers, Harold and Richard Sullivan; and sister, Barbara (Sullivan) Black. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Matthew Sappier of the Penobscot Nation; two daughters, Terry L. Ring and her husband, Herbert C. Ring Jr., of Lincoln, and Mary Sappier of the Penobscot Nation; two grandchildren, Bridget A. Ring of Dexter, N.Y., and Matthew Sappier II of the Penobscot Nation; great-granddaughter, Charli Rose Ring of Dexter, N.Y.; sister, Betty Broughton of Palestine, Texas; brother, Ronald L. Sullivan of Waco, Texas; several nieces, nephews, cousins; and many special friends.
A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, at the Orono Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 72 Main St., Orono.
