MONTICELLO – Nancy Russell Hutchinson, 75, died unexpectedly on Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013, at Maine Medical Center in Portland. Nancy was born June 19, 1938, in St. Stephen, New Brunswick, the daughter of George and Ressie (Wetmore) Russell.
Nancy graduated from Houlton High School and attended Westbrook Junior College. She earned her BA from Ricker College and her Masters in Education from the University of Maine. She taught for 32 years at Monticello Elementary and Wellington schools before retiring in 2002. She was a member the NEA, MEA, and the Aroostook Retired Educators Association. She served a term as president the SAD 29 Teachers Association and several years as a member of the executive committee of the MEA. She was also a member of the Southern Aroostook Agricultural Museum and frequently baked desserts for their suppers. She belonged to the Houlton High School Alumni Association and was class representative to the newsletter for the class of ’56. She was an avid amateur genealogist and had done extensive research on her and her husband’s family trees, tracing some branches back as far as the 1600’s and one branch, the Wetmores, back to the Norman Conquest.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, John Russell. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Carl; children, Carla Hutchinson of Portland, Jan and Paul Winkler of Bangor, Frances Hutchinson and Stephen Patriquen of London, England, Jill and Fred Sewell of Monticello; brothers, George Russell, and Paul and Patricia Russell; sisters, Frances and Robert Way, Carol Lambert, and Susan Couch; brother-in-law, Jerry and Dianne Hutchinson; grandchildren, Rebecca and Oscar Winkler-Barrera, Sarah and Aaron Small, Jeremy and Christy Kervin, Frances Sewell and Elizabeth Sewell; great-grandchildren, Emma Kervin, Christopher Small, and Ozara Barrera; and many nieces and nephews.
Friend may call 6-8 p.m. Friday, at Dunn Funeral Home. Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, at the funeral home, with Father David Raymond officiating. Interment will be at Monticello Jewell Cemetery. Reception to follow service at the Wellington School in Monticello.
