VAN BUREN – Cecile M. Levesque, 93, passed away Oct. 24, 2013, at a Presque Isle health facility. She was born July 9, 1920, in Cyr Plantation, a daughter of Noel Gagnon and Sophie (Roy) Gagnon Vaillancourt.
She spent many years living and working in Rochester, N.H., and Hartford, Conn., but the work that she was most proud of and brought her the most joy were her years of service in The Friends Foster Grandparent Program in Rochester. She returned to her hometown in 1992, residing in the LaPlante Heights Apartments. In March 2012, she moved to Borderview Rehabilitation and Living Center. Cecile loved going to dances and playing cards; she also enjoyed knitting, quilting and crafts. She made the best baked beans, chicken stew and creton, and enjoyed her hot dogs cooked over a campfire.
She is survived by a son, Allen Levesque of Lowell, Mass.; four daughters, Maryline Gagnon of North Tonawada, N.Y., Rolande Vaillancourt of Ashville, N.Y., Thérèse Rodrigue of Lowell, Mass., and Georgette Levesque of St. Jean Chrysostome, QC; two brothers, Adelard Gagnon and Armand Gagnon, both of Rochester, N.H.; one sister, Lucienne Boucher of Rochester, N.H.; 17 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by two sons, Clarence and Roger Levesque; and four brothers, Pierre, Joachim, Lucien, and Herbert Gagnon.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, at St. Bruno – St. Remi Church, Van Buren. Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family 9-10 a.m. Tuesday morning, at Lajoie Funeral Home, formerly Ouellette-Thibault Funeral Home, 118 High St., Van Buren.
