HAMPDEN, Maine — A Town Council candidate who appears to have lost his election bid by a mere five votes has requested a recount of ballots cast in the Nov. 5 municipal elections, according to a public notice issued by town officials.
According to the unofficial tally released on election night, David C. King lost the election for a councilor-at-large position in a tight race against Gregory J. Sirois, who received 662 votes to King’s 657 votes.
A third candidate, Katherine Cavness, received 157 votes, the unofficial results showed.
The three-way race for the at-large seat was the only contest on this year’s municipal election ballot.
The recount is scheduled for 9 a.m. Wednesday in the Town Council Chambers at the Hampden Municipal Building.
