HANCOCK – Beatrice “Bee” June Foss, died peacefully Dec. 1, 2013, at home with her family and beloved cats at a young 95 years of age. She was born June 18, 1918, in Springfield, Mass., one of two daughters of William and Grace (Usher) Normine.
Bee grew up in Everett, Mass., and married Maynard Foss in 1939. They lived in Peabody, Mass., until 1971, and then moved to Maynard’s boyhood home in Hancock where they shared many years of joyful retirement. She was active in the Hancock community and the Union Congregational Church. She was a member of the Woman’s Club, Red Hats, and worked on numerous community functions. She served as deacon at the church and was a long term member of the choir. Many will remember the Foss barn being the center of activity in preparation for the annual church fair. Bee always looked forward to her role running the jewelry table each summer. She really enjoyed singing, her many feline friends, and spending her time with Maynard in their gardens. She spent many happy hours reading a book with very contented feline friends nestled in her lap. Bee always had a positive attitude about life and possessed a quick sense of humor that made her a real pleasure to be around. She was the first to laugh and last to complain looking for the positive qualities in everyone she knew and everything she did. She enjoyed her numerous trips to Arizona. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her son, Robert and wife, Jean, who had the loving privilege of closely sharing the last few years of her life. Also survived by a niece, Vivian Foss; and a nephew, William Rasmussen. She was predeceased by her husband, Maynard of 66 years in 2006; and sister, Elizabeth Rasmussen.
A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, at Union Congregational Church in Hancock, with Pastor Dan Geslin officiating. A reception will immediately follow the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bee’s memory may be made to the ARK Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 276, Cherryfield, ME 04622.
